Ardales Nature Park,
near El Chorro,
with its wonderful lakes.
Actually they are three large natural looking reservoirs:
El Conde de Guadalhorce, El Guadalteba,
and El Embalse de Guadalhorce.
The area is bordered by the high sierras:
Alcaparain, Baños, Aguas, Valle de Abdalajís,
and Ortegicar. The vegetation is abundant
including pine, juniper, broom, hawthorn
, poplar, and many other species.
Just before you reach the town of Ardales
is the cave known either as the “Cueva de Ardales”
or as the “Cueva de Doña Trinidad”,
depending on who you ask.
A little further on are the famous ruins of Bobastro,
a Mozarab (Arabised Christian)
mountain top settlement.
Today all that remains is the rupestrain church,
which is carved into a huge boulder deep in the pine forest. |
